A hitherto unpublished research paper on a phenomenon called Meteor Garden, which occurred a few years ago. It was such a sensation that I felt compelled to do some research to understand this.
Here is my totally unbiased, totally objective research paper on this subject, containing notes on the research process and method used.

At one point in time, the constant topic of conversations seems to be “Meteor Garden” the famed Taiwanese TV series about F4. They were hot news over here last year. All the girls seem to be crazy over them. Curious, I decided to find out more about this Meteor Garden and the F4 guys.
After catching a few rerun episodes on TV, I finally understood why. One of them is extremely good-looking.
I asked one of my friends to fill me in on the gaps as I had missed too many episodes. It’s the usual boy meets girl, both hate each other, boy finds himself attracted to her and tries to win her over even though he’s a spoilt brat and obnoxious to boot (he bullies every one on campus) story line.
Anyway, since he’s very good-looking, I think he’s worth a watch, and doing a research paper on.

Bought the “Meteor Garden” VCD set as it was impossible to catch all the episodes on TV. Continued with my research. This is the initial write-up.
It’s about 4 well-to-do guys (called F4 which stands for Flower 4. Please don’t ask me why this is so) and a spunky girl. Since these 4 are so rich, they can bully other students and get away with it. One of them, his name is Dao Ming Shi, is very good-looking despite his permed hair which really sticks out. He happens to be the leader of the group as well.
Needless to say they are all spoilt brats. The spunky girl who happens to be very cute looking is at loggerheads with DMS. She comes from a poor family and has to hold part-time jobs to pay for her tuition fees. This is from the first 3 episodes of MG.
Did the spoilt brat DMS become a reformed character and get his girl in the end? Maybe. I’ll know sometime in May after watching the entire MG series. It will entail hours of watching this series, hours that I could have spent doing something else. Nevertheless, it will be hours worth sacrificing for the sake of research.

Finally, here is my totally unbiased, totally objective report as required for this serious research topic.
My verdict: The MG VCD set is worth every cent spent on it ! The best investment I have made so far, in terms of research material for a social phenomenon.
The MG series is great and I really liked the story line. Our hero is Dao Ming Shi. It was not an auspicious beginning. He’s a rich spoilt brat, who bullies other students, including teachers, and gets away with it.
Our plucky heroine, the pretty lead female character, San Chai, decides to stand up to him. She even punched him once. This lead to her being bullied by him as well, but because of her never-give-up attitude, our hero begins to fall for her. He told his other F3 guys : I can’t breath without her ...
They looked stunned. What ? Their fearless leader in love ?
Lots of plot surprises, drama, utterly hilarious incidents, tear-inducing moments but let me assure you, I enjoyed every minute of it. Especially when the hero is very good-looking (albeit a spoilt-brat), declares his love to the heroine (a few times), still maintains that “she is the only one for me” even though she treats him quite badly at times.
This research would not be complete without a survey about MG, and this I have undertaken among my friends. The overwhelming conclusion is this:
The girls absolutely loved it !
Dao Ming Shi and Hua Zhe Lei are their favourite characters. Dream Guy is rich, good-looking and absolutely adores you no matter what you did or say. The respondents had dreamy looks in their eyes and smile on their faces as they were talking about Dream Guy.
Among the guys, it was a slightly different reaction ...
They can’t stand F4 !!
Their comments: they can’t act, they are probably gays, they are not that good-looking – it’s just the makeup and hair. This said with looks of disgust, contempt and shaking of their heads that girls would be swooning over a group of guys with long hair.
Could it be the guys are envious that the girls absolutely adore F4... instead of them ??
