Love in the Moonlight

I finally understand why everyone else is crazy over Korean TV series. Below is what happened after I discovered the existence of Love in the Moonlight. 

It was showing on TV and I could only catch bits and parts of it due to coming home late from work most of the time. So decided to watch it online. And that was how I became a devoted fan of LITM 😀

Watched Episode 5 & 6 of LITM. Oh, like this TV series more and more, especially when it was revealed that the Crown Prince’s wish is for Eunuch Hong to be reunited with her mother. “My wish is for your wish to come true”, he said. It’s enough to make any female swoon, even if she’s in disguise as an eunuch.

Watched Episode 7 & 8 of LITM. He finds out that she’s a female. Then he kisses her in Episode 7. I like the part that he smiled when she closed her eyes, just before he kissed her. At the end of Episode 8, he confesses his love for her. She was a little bit jealous when he told her that he likes a pretty lady, then he tells her that the pretty lady is right in front of him.

Who has time for CNY house cleaning when LITM is so much more interesting ??

Watched Episode 10 and part of 9 of LITM. Ohh…definitely like the romance storyline between Crown Prince and Eunuch Hong. He promised to shield her from the wind and the sun, to treat her like the most precious lady in the world. You can’t get more romantic than that. Of course, your eyes should ooze sincerity and earnestness as well…

Back to Episode 9 (which I didn’t watch last night due to no subtitles). Oh, I like CP more after he entreated her to stay with him. Twice. 

At the beginning of Episode 9, after he declares that he will cherish her as a woman, she then tells him that her request to him is to leave the palace. He was hurt as all she asked from him is to leave him and never to see him again. After that, he said regretted telling her that he knew. If he had known that she would leave him, he would have pretended not to know that she was a female. 

Then in one touching scene, he used sign language (in front of the other servants). He said, “I like you. No. I love you. Please don’t leave. Stay with me”. Definitely the most romantic scene ever.

She decided to dress in female attire and meets him in the enchanted garden. He is reading a book. He looked up and was enchanted when he saw her walking towards him…

Watched Episode 11. More palace intrigue as faithful bodyguard has been revealed to be a spy in Episode 10. Touching scene at the end when CP said that his wish has been fulfilled, and Eunuch Hong’s mother appeared, followed by emotional reunion scene.

Episode 12: Oh my gosh ! The CP is injured by assailants ! As he collapsed, she held him close to her and cried “Choha” over and over again. She was sad as he was kept in isolation while the royal physicians attended to him. 

Finally he opened his eyes and requested for someone to be sent to him. She approached the door and called out, “Choha (Your highness), I am here. Are you all right ?”. When there was no reply, she decided to tell him, “I was terrified when you collapsed. I was afraid that my happiness will be taken away. Will you promise to never let go of my hand ? I will never let go of yours ”. She touched the wall with her fingers. His hand closed over hers, and she leant into him. “How impertinent” he said, “for someone to take away your happiness without asking my permission” As her hand closed over his, he said, “I will never let go of this hand”.

Episode 13: She asked to spend the whole day with him, one step behind him. Then asked that he not look at books today but looked at her. He told her his request is: Don’t make any request in the future. Don’t you know I’ll do anything for you ?

Episode 14: After she had been gazing at him for some time, he asked, “How can I fall asleep when you keep looking at me ?” She said, “I want to look at you the whole night”. He replied, “You can look at me the whole day tomorrow.”

Am now such a big fan of LITM that I have to change the wallpaper for my laptop. Sorry, royal family of W, C, G and Charlotte. The Crown Prince of Josean is now my wallpaper.

LITM marathon as I couldn’t bear not  knowing what happened next.

Episode 15: CP is getting ready for his marriage and he remains emotionless even when his eunuch told him, “I have seen you grown up. And now you are getting married. I am so happy for you”. How can he be married to someone else other than the love of his life ??

How will Ra On and her father survive the execution order from the King at the end of Episode 16 ??

Mystery solved when faithful bodyguard had to threaten CP’s life by putting sword to his throat. Followed by touching scene of CP ordering best friend not to put down his sword or he will lose him. While he breathe his last (or so we thought), CP with tears in the checks,  told his friend, “If there is only 1 person I can trust in this world, it will still be you.” Bodyguard gasps out, “Thank you for your trust in me”. Then closed his eyes.

CP was poisoned at end of Episode 17. OMG ! How could he be dying ??

Episode 18 is so packed with storylines !!

Premier Kim’s secret is finally revealed.

He is heart-broken that his grandson is dead. I can’t believe one of the main characters died, when he was trying to protect Ra On from his grandfather who was bent on protecting his secret. “Kill her if necessary” he told his servant.

Crown Princess decides to leave when she saw the touching scene of CP and medical assistant Ra On. He told her, “I was so afraid that when I opened my eyes that your face would not be the face that I will see”. Then he unfolded her sleeve to reveal that she is wearing his bracelet. He smiled, knowing that she is in love with him, to have picked up the pieces after he had intentionally and with a broken heart broke it after she lied that she was a rebel, and  was part of the rebellion.

One year later he is now the King, and he is as irreverent as ever, yet endearing with his avowed intent to close the gap between him and his people

Last scene: he kissed Ra On in a beautiful field of flowers, after he told her, “You are Ra On, the one who fills my world”.

Decided to watch LTIM again. This time to enjoy all the scenes, the music. Without being at the edge of my seat, dying to know what happens next especially where there are scenes where CP was injured in sword fight and poisoned after that.

Watching Episode 1 (Moonlight Destiny) of LITM again. Love the earlier episodes where there is more comedy than drama. They meet up for the first time where he pretended to be Master Jung’s love interest while she pretended to be Master Jung (whom she has been helping to write love letters to the Princess). Then they fell into the pit. Actually, she pushed him in and he grabbed her ankle, causing her to fall in too. 

When he screamed at the sight of a snake, she kills it. After helping her out of the pit, she abandons him, promising she’ll do anything if she ever sees him again. If he wants her to be a dog, she’ll be his dog. He screams at her to come back.

Watching Episode 2 (The Way to Your Heart) & 3 (I will be Right Behind You) of LITM. At the end of Episode 2, eunuch trainee Hong bumps into Silver Spoon as she tries to escape the palace. He is amused that he has found his puppy. 

Hilarious scene where the female palace attendants were making a big fuss over Chief Kim’s training at the field. He orders his men to shoot their arrows. The arrows must either go over him or go thru him, to reach the target. Lots of female screaming followed when the arrows either went pass him as he walked across the field, or deftly deflected by his sword. CP was annoyed with the female commotion and shoots an arrow into their direction…

In another humorous scene, CP and faithful bodyguard finds Eunuch Hong in a depressed mood. She declares that the CP is making her life miserable. 

She declares that she will go and see CP and demand an explanation from him. Both CP and bodyguard were agasht and tries to stop her. CP demanded, “What did I”, then quickly changed it to “What did he do?” Then CP said to both of them, “Come with me”.

At the palace wall, they looked into the horizon. Byung Yeon said, “The palace becomes your home. Especially where there is someone you like living here”

Eunuch Hong is assigned to Consort Park’s residence. She is asked to help in the garden, which is where CP found her.

Episode 4: After the Play Ends

One of my favourite scene is the library scene where Eunuch Hong tells CP he should leave the room as it is only for the Crown Prince’s use. He looked disconcerted because he knew he couldn’t keep it a secret any longer. After Eunuch Hong has confidingly motioned to him that it's safe for him to leave, he decided to tell her, “You asked me what was my name. Lee Young. That is my name.” Her face changed expression from amazement to horror as she realized that she has been rude to CP several times, without knowing that he was the Crown Prince.

The next morning she asked Eunuch Jang to assigned her elsewhere. When he asked with a pained expression, “Why, it is me ?” she couldn’t reply. Then CP appeared and asked, “Is it because of me ?” As she was dressing CP, he told her, “When we are alone, you can treat me as a friend. It’s a command”. When he asked her whether she regretted asking him to be her friend, she replied yes.

Eunuch Hong is helping CP / Silver Spoon to prepare for the King’s birthday festival. 

Eunuch Hong decides to replace the missing main dancer as CP’s reputation is at stake. He is entranced with her. He searches for the mystery dancer, determined to find out who she is.

Episode 5: Tell Me Your Wish

CP nursed Eunuch Hong during the night, after saving her from drowning when she fell into the lake. She thought it was Byung Yeon instead of CP and scornfully told CP the next morning that “my dear Byung Yeon” was unlike someone else who is scared of catching a cold from her.

After her recovery, both of them went to the Lantern Festival where she finds out that his wish was to make her wish come true, for her to find her mother.

Episode 6: When you want to share your forbidden secret

Crown Prince is showing symptoms of being in love (he tells the doctor that he can’t breath, suddenly feels feverish). When the doctor suggested that he may be wanting someone he can’t have, CP angrily asked him to leave.

CP magically appears to rescue Eunuch Hong twice. First time when she was harassed by Envoy Mok (evil looking person representing the Qing Emperor) whose permission is required for CP to take over the throne as interim King.

After stalling the Envoy’s departure, he reluctantly let Eunuch Hong go. Her last words to him were, “I will go. Your Highness, you told me not to restrain myself, especially if it is for you. I will therefore not restrain myself. Please restrain your anger, not for me but for your people. Because you are the Crown Prince of this country.” His eyes were red as he watched her walked away, to be sent to Qing to be punished for disrespecting the Envoy.

When Envoy Mok made a stop to sell merchandize meant for the Emperor, CP and loyal body guard made their appearance. CP told the envoy, “I forgot to give you your farewell gift”. When body guard told him to stay behind while he deals with the envoy’s men, CP told him, “You should have told me earlier. Before I drew out my sword.” Both men then proceed to demonstrate their sword fighting prowess and able to easily dispatch 20 men (at least) each without breaking out a sweat.

Then CP appears out of magic to save Eunuch Hong who is tied to a tree. It is obvious now that he has feelings for her as he slowly untied her hands and clad her injured feet in shoes before lifting her up into the horse saddle. She asked him, “Are you still angry with me ?” He said, “Yes. I am angry whenever I see you. However, when you are not around, I am more angry and it drove me crazy. Therefore, stay by my side.” Then they rode off into the magnificent sunset.

At 11 PM, it was time to watch Episode 7: Confession 

She is a little jealous when she sees CP in the garden smiling at a young lady who has just asked him to take a walk with her. What she didn’t see is the young lady looking annoyed after that, saying “No, he won’t. There is no specific reason. Then why did he smiled at me ?” 

CP has been struggling with his affection for Eunuch Hong. He finally decides to confess his feelings for her. She appears in the garden. “You asked to see me, Your Highness ?” He tells her that he lied. He doesn’t want her to stay as his favourite eunuch. That he likes her. 

She protested, “There is good love, and there is bad love”. He tells her, “I plan to do it. The bad love” and pulls her close to him…

Episode 8 of LITM: You Don't Know

Eunuch Hong is back at her abode at the palace (Jahyeongdang) which she shares with Byung Yeon (aka Chief Kim, CP’s loyal bodyguard and best buddy). He asked her what happened. She retorted it’s rude to ask when nothing has happened. He looks confused. Then she quickly asked, “Has CP ever liked a maiden before ? All this time ? Ever ?” When he replied, “No”, she looks happy.

Decided to go to gym but it was closed ! Due to annual staff meeting.

Was thinking to skip gym but fate has intervened. Decided to get a new data plan as the existing 2GB + 500 MB free for weekend was seriously lacking for my LITM episodes. With my new 20 GB data plan, there’s nothing standing between me and more episodes of LITM (except for the fact that I still have to work and can only watch at night or weekends).

Episode 9 of LITM: Latch Opening 

It started with CP looking tenderly at Eunuch Hong and telling her that he wants to shield from the sun, the wind. May he do so ? She replied she has to go…

Tense moments as Eunuch Hong tried to avoid CP and he tries to convince her to stay by his side. He apologies for not knowing her better. If he did he would not have confess his feelings for her and continue to have her by his side.

Episode 10: Like a Fairy Tale. 

Quite an appropriate title for this episode, especially the garden scene where he first called her by her real name Ra On. 

The next morning, CP is up early and is pacing the floor, waiting for Eunuch Hong to enter his room, for her daily task of helping him to put on his CP robe (dark blue robe with silver embellishment). She is also happy and excited to see him again, rushing into his room as soon as he replied, “I am awake. Come in”. As they were leaving the room, he turned and asked her, “Is it not every female’s dream to be in love with the Crown Prince ?” She turns her nose up at his arrogance. 

Episode 11: The Promise

More romantic  scenes.

Eunuch Hong has injured her ankle and CP carries her back to her place. He said that she seems to be so light. She asked, “Is this true ? Then why is your hand slightly shaking ?” He cleared his throat and did not answer her question.

At the end of Episode 11, both CP and Eunuch Hong is sitting at a hillside. He looks at her and said, “If you encounter a difficult situation and had to let go of something, it must not be me. Will you promise me?” She smiled and promised him and she will not go anywhere without asking his permission. Then he told her, “My wish has been fulfilled. My wish that your wish will come true. I have found your mother.”

Episode 12: Fate Becomes Destiny. 

She tells him that she is afraid, as she is so happy. She believed that someone’s happiness must have gone to her. She is afraid that it will be taken back. He tells her that he is happy when she is happy.

At the end of Episode 12, Eunuch Hong finds out that her father is Hong Gyeong Nae, the rebel who had started a riot that killed thousands of people 10 years ago.

Episode 13: Tenderly Goodbye

Ra On tells her mother in tears, “I have to go back. He is waiting for me. He doesn’t know anything”. 

CP is pacing the ground outside the humble abode that Eunuch Hong shares with Byung Yeon. When she finally appears, he said, “I was determined not to smile when I see you”. Then hugs her tightly, “But I forgive you. As long as you are back safely”. He did not see the tears in her eyes.

Knowing that she must leave the palace soon, Eunuch Hong decides to spend the whole day with CP. She surprised him in the library when she leaned on his back and told him, “I want to stay here for awhile”. He told her, “You can stay here for as long as you want to”.

After telling him that she wants to look at his face the whole night, she tenderly kissed him and touched his check when he had fallen asleep.

Episode 14: Misty Road

Flash back to moonlight watching scene between Eunuch Hong and CP. “Even though I am the Crown Prince, whoever you are, wherever you are, we will be fine as our heart is the same. Like the moon”, he told her. Then he patted his shoulder indicating to her to rest her head on his shoulder.

Episode 15: All The lies Seemed True

CP pleaded with Byung Yeon, “Once. Just once. Will you let me see her ?” after asking him, “Did she not ask about me ? Did she even ask to see me ? Is she still alive ?”

At the same time, Ra On told her mother, “There is someone I have to say good-bye properly to. So that he can live well without me” when her mother asked whether they should move to somewhere else, somewhere that no one will recognize them.

They meet up. He had a smile on his face and was happy to see her. However it was short-lived. 

He asked her, “Was it true ? All that you have showed me before ?”

She told him, “The most dangerous moment for me is when I am with you. One word from you and I will be arrested”.

CP: How could you say such an absurd thing ?

She pulls out a knife and points it at him.

After grabbing hold of her hand and cutting off his bracelet (in slow motion), he told her, “I see what you mean. I will never ask to see you again”, with tears on his impossibly smooth checks. 

How could she do this to him ??

Next scene: It is the wedding day. He looked carved in stone as his eunuch dressed him and told him, “I wish you a long and happy life, Choha. I wish you happiness”.

Touching scene between CP and best friend was superb. Was in tears even though I have seen this scene before. Blood in Byung Yeon’s mouth looks fake, but everything else was perfect. Just like this perfect TV Series 😄
